Rescue of baby Ani

Baby Ani, rescued by VIVA volunteer doctors in Gehamasar today, has already been delivered to Yerevan. She is fine - and we really hope she has a long, peaceful life in Armenia! But I had to worry about her!

Today we rescued a 40-day-old baby…. A phrase that makes you cringe. But it’s true! The medical team in Gehamasar. Almost all the local men are on duty. It’s already commonplace for us. We are welcomed everywhere in the distant villages by women, old men and children….

Only the situation with little Ani was unusual. 40 days old! Saturation 75!!! For those who are far from medicine, let us say that this is not just low, it is fatal. The baby could have died. And what luck that at that moment in the outpatient clinic were our doctors! Otherwise, 30 minutes – and there would be no one to save.

Not having at hand anything for resuscitation, our doctors built suction from dental (!!!) suction, catheter and insulin syringe. The baby was saved by a paediatrician, two dentists, a traumatologist and an otolaryngologist!

We consider them heroes! Tatiana Hovhannisyan, Grigor Tarverdyan, Edlen Bakh, Abram Tarverdyan, Alla Beghyan, Ashot Sargsyan! #vivaslife

Thank you for being with us. And truly saving lives!!!
Ani, grow up healthy, now you are under our wing!
